Our Story
From a side of the road produce stand to a trusted destination for authentic Hatch chile, Hatch Chile Express has grown through family, farming, and a deep love for the Hatch Valley. For more than four decades, our family has proudly shared the flavor, tradition, and spirit of New Mexico with customers near and far.
Rooted in Family and Farming
How It Started
Hatch Chile Express was founded by Josephine Lytle, lovingly known as “The Farmer’s Wife.” Her husband, Jimmy Lytle, was a third generation Hatch Valley farmer who grew a variety of produce, with a special focus on Hatch green and red chile. What started as a simple roadside produce stand has steadily grown into a go to shop for authentic Hatch chile, built on hard work, family dedication, and a passion for sharing the best of the Hatch Valley.
Supporting Hatch Valley Farmers
Local Traditions
Our story began as a way to showcase the hard work and sacrifice of a third generation farmer. Today, that same respect for local agriculture continues through the farmers, families, and traditions that make this valley so special. We continue to source produce from local farmers who grow right here in the Hatch Valley, helping support New Mexico farming traditions while bringing customers the authentic flavor they know and love.
More Than a Chile Shop
A Taste of the Southwest
Over the years, Hatch Chile Express has grown into more than a place to buy chile. We now offer products and souvenirs from across the Southwest, giving every visitor a chance to take home a piece of New Mexico. From roasted chile to regional goods, our store celebrates the culture, flavor, and heritage that make this area one of a kind. For more than four decades, our family has proudly shared the flavor, tradition, and spirit of New Mexico with customers near and far.
Family Owned for Over Four Decades
Built for Generations
After more than four decades in business, we have seen our share of highs and lows. Through it all, our commitment to quality, customer experience, and family values has helped keep Hatch Chile Express going strong. Today, the business remains family owned and continues to be passed down through multiple generations. We are grateful for the opportunity to keep growing and to provide for the generations still to come.
